A Dolby Pro Logic decoder will decode an Lt/Rt signal back into four channels (Left, Center, Right, and Surround). A Dolby Pro Logic II decoder will decode an Lt/Rt signal back into five channels (Left, Center, Right, Left Surround and Right Surround).
Dolby Pro Logic decoding relies on amplitude and phase differences between the two channels of an Lt/Rt signal to extract the four channels. Dolby Surround encoded content is also compatible with conventional two-channel stereo playback, as well as mono playback.
